Western Alaska Landscape Conservation Cooperative
The Western Alaska Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) is pleased
to announce its FY2012 Request for Proposals. As part of the LCC's Pilot
Program on Coastal Storms and their Impacts in western Alaska, the
FY2012 request is interested in proposals in four areas of science
needs:
- Shorefast ice dynamics;
- Local involvement in monitoring coastal dynamics;
- Effects of changes in coastal storms on coastal biological
resources (including subsistence resources and habitats); and
- Opportunities to leverage deployment of instrumentation or data
collection.
This Request for Proposals will be the subject of a one-hour webinar,
providing an opportunity to ask questions not addressed on the website.
The webinar will be held Friday, 3 February 2012 at 11:00 a.m. AKST, and
again on Wednesday, 8 February 2012 at 1:00 p.m. AKST. There is a
maximum of 50 phone lines available so please consolidate calls if

- Arctic Data Synthesis and Research Needs
North Pacific Marine Research Institute
The North Pacific Marine Research Institute, administered by the North
Pacific Research Board (NPRB), is working with the National Science
Foundation (NSF) to further understanding of the marine ecosystem in the
Bering Strait and Arctic Ocean (Chukchi and Beaufort seas).
With financial support from Shell and ConocoPhillips, the Institute
announces the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) with a total
anticipated budget of $1.45 million. The focus of this RFP is a
synthesis of existing scientific and traditional knowledge related to
marine ecosystem structure and function, including humans (i.e.
biological, physical, sociological, traditional) from the Chukchi and
Beaufort seas and the Bering Strait north of St. Lawrence Island, as
well as an identification of research needs to help plan potential
upcoming research programs by the Institute, NPRB, NSF, and other
organizations.
An overview presentation followed by a question and answer session on
the RFP will be held via teleconference on Friday, 3 February 2012 at

- Aquaculture Research Program 2012
National Sea Grant
The Federal Funding Opportunity has been announced for the NOAA Sea
Grant Aquaculture Research Program 2012.
Depending on the availability of funds, NOAA expects to have
approximately $3.2 million available to fund marine aquaculture research
projects for FY 2012. This is part of the overall plan to support the
development of environmentally and economically sustainable ocean,
coastal, or Great Lakes aquaculture. Priorities for Call for Proposals
include research to inform specific regulatory decisions, research that
supports multi-use spatial planning, and socio-economic research
targeted to understand aquaculture in a larger context.
The two-stage process includes both preproposals and full proposals.
Each has specific guidance and deadlines, which are stated in the full
announcement. Applicants must submit a preproposal in order to be
eligible to submit a full proposals. Applicants should pay careful
attention to the instructions, and contact their state Sea Grant Program
as soon as possible to discuss proposals.
Preproposal deadline: Tuesday, 7 February 2012 at 4:00 p.m. EST.
Full proposal deadline: 17 April 2012 at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Svalbard Science Forum
The Svalbard Science Forum (SSF) has opened two calls for proposals for
funding of workshops and small projects related to research in Svalbard,
Norway.
The SSF promotes Svalbard as a national and international research
platform. Its tasks are to coordinate and facilitate research in
Svalbard as well as providing information for researchers, managers, and
the public. SSF aims to enhance collaboration and coordination within
research in Svalbard with three funding programs:
- Arctic Field Grants
- SSF Workshops
- SSF Support Funds
SSF announces funding for fieldwork, workshops, and projects that
promote the scientific and strategic objectives of SSF and the Polar
Strategy of the Research Council of Norway. Applications from both
Norwegian and international researchers are welcome, but the application
must be submitted by a Norwegian research institution. The funding
programs aim to:
- Increase international and interdisciplinary research cooperation
in Svalbard;
- Promote research that minimizes the environmental footprint; and
- Facilitate sharing of data collected in Svalbard.
