The University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks PhD candidates for the Marine
Ecosystem Sustainability in the Arctic and Subarctic (MESAS) program.
The program is based in Juneau and Fairbanks, Alaska.

MESAS is an interdisciplinary NSF-funded Integrative Graduate Education
and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program that incorporates social and
natural sciences to explore new approaches to studying and managing
marine ecosystems. The program uses case studies, courses, and seminars
to teach the fundamental principles and analytical tools of fisheries
science, oceanography, ecology, economics, management, marine policy,
and anthropology to broadly train students in ecosystem-based approaches
to living marine resources.

The MESAS program offers interdisciplinary marine ecosystem coursework,
and provides opportunities for an internship with a partner
organization, mentoring of undergraduate students, and interaction with
the terrestrial sustainability IGERT at UAF. Students may locate in
Juneau or Fairbanks. Fellowships are available to U.S. citizens or
permanent residents seeking a PhD degree, and include a $30,000 annual
stipend, tuition, health insurance, and research funding.

The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) seeks a
contract website specialist. The contract is part time and expected to
last at least six months. The position will be based in Tromso, Norway,
or remotely. English will be the working language.

APECS is an international organization of polar researchers in the early
stages of their careers. The APECS web presence serves to link members
across continents and disciplines through tools such as mailing lists,
literature discussions, multiple databases, a polar outreach catalogue,
and a monthly newsletter.

The APECS website is hosted by the Arctic Portal and is supported by the
Joomla! content management system. The website specialist contractor
will work with the existing website, extend its capabilities, increase
its usability, contribute content when available, and handle basic
troubleshooting for the site.

The successful candidate will have basic to advanced understanding of the
Joomla! system. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and PHP as well as video editing
skills are also desired. The contractor will manage freelance workers to
complete specialized tasks or those that the contractor is not able to
fulfill personally.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute seeks to fill a
postdoctoral position in the area of arctic aerosol assessment using in
situ measurement techniques and numerical modeling methods. The position
is full time and is based in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct research to
assess temporal and spatial variations of anthropogenic water vapor
emissions in the Arctic. Research tasks will include modeling of the
respective microphysics and related visibility constraints due to ice
fog. The position will work to improve the capabilities of the Weather
Research and Forecast (WRF) model to simulate the microphysics of point
sources of water vapor in an arctic environment. The successful
candidate will have a strong background in physics and extensive
information technology and programming skills.
