The Department of Geography at George Washington University seeks
applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor
level for a geospatial techniques geographer. The position is expected
to begin 1 August 2012 and will be based in Washington, DC.
Faculty members in the department are actively involved in the
Environmental Studies Program, the Center for Urban and Environmental
Research, and the Elliott School of International Affairs. Research foci
in the department include urban environment issues, arctic regions, and
migration.
Applicants must have a PhD in geography or an allied field by 1 August
2012, and be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
geospatial techniques and their field of interest. Promise of a
productive scholarly career as established by publications, expertise in
geospatial techniques demonstrated by previous research, and success or
interest in pursuing external funding are preferred. Any sub-specialty
in geospatial techniques will be considered but preference will be given
to GIS and spatial analysis. A candidate with a strong background in
physical geography and research interests in urban environmental issues,
climate change, or the Arctic is highly desirable.

Cross-Cultural Studies

The Center for Cross-Cultural Studies at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks, College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant or associate professor position. The position is
full-time, and expected to begin 1 January 2012.
The successful candidate will teach graduate level Indigenous Studies
courses, and advise M.A. and PhD students. The faculty member is
expected to engage in scholarly research and publications, and in public
and university service.
Applicants with previous teaching experience and significant experience
with Alaska Native/Indigenous cultures and peoples are preferred. A
terminal degree in a content area relevant to Alaska Native/Indigenous
Studies is required at the time of hire.

Marine Mammals Management
Anchorage, Alaska
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is seeking a Marine Mammals
Management Program Leader. The position will be based in Anchorage,
Alaska.
The successful candidate will serve as program leader for the region's
Marine Mammals Management (MMM) Office, leading teams responsible for
marine mammal management and conservation in Alaska, including
co-management with Alaska Natives. The position provides direction and
oversight to meet international, national, and regional marine mammal
goals and objectives, as well as managing and monitoring harvest of
marine mammals. The position works with the USFWS Division of
International Conservation and the U.S.-Russia Marine Mammal Working
Group lead in the National Marine Fisheries Service, on the overall
coordination of marine mammal studies, workshops, technical meetings,
and other forms of information exchange. The leader works with a 20-plus
member staff and partners to implement regulations, policies, and
scientific programs for the polar bear, Pacific walrus, and northern sea
otter.
