Organizers announce open registration for the Seventh International
Congress of Arctic Social Sciences (ICASS VII) titled "Circumpolar
Perspectives in Global Dialogue: Social Sciences Beyond the
International Polar Year." The Congress, hosted by the University of
Akureyri, and the Stefansson Arctic Institute, will convene 22-26 June
2011 in Akureyri, Iceland.

Organized by the International Arctic Social Sciences Association, ICASS
is held every three years to provide a venue for sharing arctic research
in the social and human sciences, and related fields. ICASS VII will
feature plenary presentations, discussion panels, workshops, special
project sessions, poster sessions, and keynote addresses. Early career
scientists and students are encouraged to participate.

    APECS Early-Career Scientist Development Workshop

The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) announces
opening of registration applications for an Early-Career Scientist
Development Workshop. This workshop will be held in association with the
International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) Assembly in
Melbourne, Australia on Monday, 27 June 2011.

The workshop is open to all early career researchers and will provide
opportunities for learning career skills from experienced mentors,
international networking, and building future collaborations. The
workshop is limited to 50 participants and is free of charge to
successful applicants.

The agenda will include plenary lectures, panel discussions, and
breakout sessions. Topics to be addressed include:

- Science communication and working with the media;
- Managing research projects and international collaborations;
- Writing proposals and finding funding;
- Using video and animations to present research; and
- Non-academic careers in polar science.

Application deadline: Monday, 11 April 2011.
Participants will be notified of acceptance by 30 April 2011.

Organizers announce that the John Tyndall Conference 2011 will be held
28-30 September 2011 in Dublin, Ireland at the Dublin Castle.

The Royal Irish Academy and the Environmental Protection Agency of
Ireland are holding a scientific conference to mark the 150th
anniversary of the publication of John Tyndall's experimental work on
the absorption of infrared radiation by various atmospheric gases that
are essentially transparent to solar radiation. Potential topics at the
conference include the life and scientific legacy of John Tyndall;
greenhouse warming potentials; and the current science of climate
feedbacks.

Registration for the conference will be available at a reduced rate
