Research Assistantship in Paleovegetation Modeling
for Doctoral Student
A four-year research assistantship is available for a doctoral student
interested in paleovegetation modeling.

The student will be part of a collaborative research project that
investigates the roles of land surface-atmosphere interactions and
large-scale boundary conditions on regional climate and vegetation in
Beringia (Alaska, northwest Canada and northeast Siberia). Specific
research responsibilities will be to conduct comparisons between
pollen-based estimates of past vegetation with simulated vegetation
based on regional climate and vegetation models. The student would gain
familiarity with current approaches in biome-based vegetation modeling,
arctic palynology and paleoenvironmental studies, regional climatic
modeling, and paleoclimatology through collaborators at several
universities. Applicants should have a masters degree in Quaternary
studies, geography, or ecology, with strong analytic and data management
skills.
