RE: Microbial Ecology of the Arctic Oceans
Special Session (SS13), ASLO 2000
Dear Colleague,
We would also like to bring to your attention another special Arctic session
to be held during the upcoming meeting of the American Society of Limnology
and Oceanography (ASLO) in Copenhagen.
You are invited to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation to
the Special Session on "Microbial Ecology of the Arctic Ocean" to be held
during the ASLO meeting in Copenhagen, 5-9 June 2000.
The conveners of the session are:
James T. Hollibaugh Patricia L. Yager

The theme of the meeting is Research Across Boundaries. The program is
available at the following web site: http://www.aslo.org/copenhagen2000.
The special session on microbial ecology of the arctic oceans is numbered
SS13. Its description reads as follows:
This session focuses on microbial processes in the Arctic Ocean, from
organic matter distributions and productivity to species composition and
endemism.
Results from recent cruises suggest anomalies in coupling between primary
production and bacterial production at high latitudes, yet the basis for the
apparent uncoupling temporal lags, the effect of temperature on bacterial
physiology, grazing pressure, etc. - is not clear. We seek papers that
address these issues as well as those addressing basic questions of
prokaryote physiology and biogeography.
The deadline for abstract submission is 15 January 2000. The easiest way
to submit an abstract is to use the above web site.
Tim and Tish look forward to seeing you in Copenhagen this coming June.
