  1. Northwestern University seeks Laboratory Technician
    Quaternary Sediment Lab
    Evanston, Illinois

Northwestern University seeks a full-time technician to support research
in the new Quaternary Sediment Lab at Northwestern University. The
position is for one year, and will be based in Evanston, Illinois.

The technician will assist with equipping the new lab, setting up basic
instrumentation, and developing laboratory protocols. The successful
candidate will also conduct paleoenvironmental analyses on lake sediment
cores from Greenland, including collection of geochemical and possibly
paleoecological data.

Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in geology or a related
field, and experience working independently in a laboratory; a Master's
degree and experience working in a paleolimnology or geochemistry
laboratory are preferred.

preferably be in September 2012. The position will be open until filled.

  1. U.S. Geological Survey seeks Researcher
    Arctic Hydrology
    Anchorage, Alaska

The U.S. Geological Survey, Alaska Science Center, seeks applicants for
a research hydrologist position focused on the Arctic. The position will
be based in Anchorage, Alaska.

The position conducts research that will improve fundamental
understanding of hydrologic, ecologic, and related geomorphic processes
associated with streams, lakes, and wetlands in a variety of landscapes
including the continuum of permafrost conditions in Alaska. The
successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and conduct research in the
broad areas of arctic and subarctic hydrology, including
groundwater-surface water interactions, and the affects of climate
change on the hydrologic cycle and aquatic ecosystems. This position
also serves as a member of interdisciplinary and interagency teams
focused on adaptation and mitigation to climate change in the Arctic.

The Polar Division at GRID-Arendal has two positions available, one for
a Research Assistant and the other for an Environmental Policy Senior
Polar and Cryosphere Expert. Both positions will be based in Arendal,
Norway.

The Research Assistant will support the development and implementation
of the division's activities and projects. Duties will include
conducting background research, editing and formatting reports, and

The Environmental Policy Senior Polar and Cryosphere Expert will
