The Department of Geology at the University of Illinois seeks an
assistant professor in the area of global change geology. This is a
full-time, tenure-track position with a target starting date of 16
August 2013 and is based in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally
funded research program, teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, and
collaborate with faculty to develop research initiatives in global
change and earth system science. Examples of relevant research areas
include but are not limited to:
- The global carbon cycle, including connections to the deep Earth,
weathering, and carbon sequestration;
- Paleoclimatology, isotope or organic geochemistry, and other
studies of environmental change records;
- Studies of earth materials and elements related to climate and the
evolution of life; and
- Earth science studies of modern environmental change.
Candidates must have earned a PhD at the time of appointment and are
expected to present evidence of excellence in research and teaching.

- NCAR seeks Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) seeks a postdoctoral
research fellow for the project "The Seasonal Atmospheric Circulation
and Climate Response to Arctic Sea Ice Loss: Mechanisms and Robustness
across Models" in the Earth System Laboratory and Climate and Global
Dynamics Division. The appointment is for two years with a possible
extension to three years and is based in Boulder, Colorado.
The successful candidate will conduct research on the seasonal
atmospheric and climate response to arctic sea ice loss within the
context of anthropogenic climate change using observations and models.
Efforts will focus on the role of stratosphere-troposphere coupling and
ocean feedbacks.
A PhD in atmospheric or related sciences is required. Candidates with a
strong background in large-scale atmospheric/climate dynamics, including
atmosphere-ocean interaction and troposphere-stratosphere coupling, are
encouraged to apply. Expertise in statistical analysis, working with
large datasets, and modeling experience is desirable.

- Labrador Institute seeks Research Associate
Mineral Deposits

The Labrador Institute seeks a research associate in mineral deposits.
The position is contractual and located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay,
Newfoundland, Canada.
The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting scientific
research to provide mining and mineral exploration companies, and
relevant licensing and governance bodies operating in Labrador, with key
technical information that can ultimately lead toward the opening of new
mineral mining operations. Duties include working in collaboration with
researchers in the Department of Earth Science at Memorial University of
Newfoundland, and other research partners of the Labrador Institute to
aid in the development of mineral prospects in Labrador.
The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in earth sciences;
significant experience in a university research setting; and experience
in some aspect of field geography, laboratory analyses, and economic
geology, or any equivalent combination of experience and training. All
qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Canadian citizens and
permanent residents will be given priority.
