The Canadian Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council's (NSERC)
Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) Program is now
recruiting students for graduate studies. Several Canadian universities
are participants in the program, which is available for September 2013.

The CREATE program aims to provide students and postdoctoral fellows
with training in arctic atmospheric science, including the use of
state-of-the-art instrumentation and analysis of large datasets. The
program uses the Polar Environment Atmospheric Research Laboratory
(PEARL), which is run by the Canadian Network for the Detection of
Atmospheric Change (CANDAC) located on Ellesmere Island in Eureka,
Nunavut.

The program has projects and stipends available for September 2013.
Students interested in pursuing a graduate degree involving arctic
atmospheric science are invited to contact the CREATE investigator with
whom they wish to study. When a potential supervisor has been
identified, students should apply to the relevant university and
department and inform the CREATE Training Program Director of their
application.

    Summer 2013 Field Courses
    Alaska Geographic

Registration is now open for a variety of field courses and teacher
trainings offered by Alaska Geographic. The multi-day field courses
explore Alaska's national parks, forests, and refuges, and are available
during summer 2013.

Field courses are open to all participants. Several field-based teacher
workshops explore geology, climate change, and learning styles. All
field courses are accredited through the University of Alaska. Courses
in Denali National Park are offered through the Murie Science and
Learning Center. Alaska Geographic offers classes developed in
partnership with the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and
the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

    Juneau Icefield Research Program
    21 June - 16 August 2013

Graduate and undergraduate students and high aptitude high school
seniors are invited to participate in the Juneau Icefield Research
Program (JIRP) 2013 summer programs and expedition training in
interdisciplinary arctic and mountain earth system science, which will
be conducted 21 June to 16 August on the Juneau ice field located in
Alaska and British Columbia and Yukon Territory, Canada.

The program offers earth system sciences education and field training to
students and scientists through field research and classroom training
including lectures on natural sciences such as glaciology, geology,
climatology, meteorology, biology, and ecology. Students will
participate in JIRP's long-running mass balance and surface elevation
surveys. The program provides training in backcountry skiing, glacier
travel, and crevasse rescue.

Participating students may earn academic credits through the University
of Alaska Southeast.

Application deadline: 15 April 2013.

    Climate Change Science
    University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo seeks applicants for its new Master's of
Climate Change (MCC) program. This one-year course-based program begins
in September 2013 in Ontario, Canada.

The MCC program, which is the first of its kind in Canada, will focus on
the multiple ways climate change interacts with society and the
environment. The program will provide an interdisciplinary educational
experience for students interested in climate change research and
diverse career paths in climate change science, policy, and management.
The program is designed to meet the needs of recent graduates seeking
advanced training and experience specific to climate change and to
mid-career professionals looking to upgrade their knowledge and skills
relevant to climate change challenges posed to their field of work.

MCC courses will be taught by professors from several different academic
departments and schools within the Faculty of Environment at the
University of Waterloo and the joint Waterloo-Laurier Graduate Program
in Geography. These faulty have research and professional expertise in
areas including climate change detection and modeling, vulnerability
assessment, adaptation planning, mitigation policy, and enterprise
carbon management.

MCC entrance scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis.
