    Observations of Upper-Ocean and Sea-Ice Interactions in the
    Eastern Arctic Ocean

Organizers at the International Arctic Research Center (IARC) announce
an open workshop entitled "Observations of Upper-Ocean and Sea-Ice
Interactions in the Eastern Arctic Ocean." The workshop will convene
24-25 April 2014 in Arlington, Virginia.

The workshop aims to the identify key science questions and hypotheses
to be addressed by an experimental program in order to significantly
advance the understanding of sea-ice, upper-ocean, and lower-atmosphere
processes and interactions in the eastern Arctic Ocean. Discussion
during the workshop will include the identification of technologies and
platforms essential to addressing the science questions and hypotheses,
such as the potential for ship surveying; one or more focused ice
camps; drifters, underwater and airborne autonomous vehicles; and
satellite or airborne remote sensing.

The agenda for this one-and-a-half-day meeting will feature a series of
integrated talks preceding a series of parallel thematic sessions, a
joint session, and discussion. Planned products of the workshop include
a draft white paper and subsequent open review of that draft, which are
intended to lead to a concrete science plan with broad U.S. and
international Arctic community support for proposed activities.

Interested persons are encouraged to participate and apply for travel

Selection for travel support will consider disciplinary balance,
geographical location, career level, and participation of minorities.

Organizers at the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) announce open
registration and a call for abstracts for the 20th International
Symposium on Polar Sciences entitled "Our Collective Journey to Connect
the Past and Future from the Antarctic." The Symposium will convene
27-29 May 2014 in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

The symposium is organized into four major sessions to cover a range of
KOPRI research efforts in the Antarctic including:

  • Antarctic climate records: late quaternary ice core and geologic
    records;
  • Life of King George Island in the Changing Environment;
  • The Amundsen Sea as a window to view the future of the Antarctic in a
    changing global climate; and
  • Interactions between the solid earth, the oceans, and the cryosphere
    in the Victoria Land-Ross Sea, Antarctica.

Abstract submission deadline: Friday, 21 March 2014.

Registration deadline: 18 April 2014.

    Arctic Maritime and Security Forum
    8-9 May 2014

Organizers of the Arctic Maritime and Security Forum entitled
"Cooperation 66 Degree North" announce a call for early registration.
The forum will convene 8-9 May 2014 in Tromso, Norway.

The forum is designed to enhance communication, cooperation, and
collaboration across political, economic, and security sectors
throughout the circumpolar region and beyond. In particular, it will
focus on fostering frank discourse about security, safety, and
operational and legal challenges in the maritime and offshore sectors of
the circumpolar region.

The forum will be comprised of expert presentations, panel discussions,
working group dialogues, excursions, and networking receptions. The
program will be conducted in the English language.

Forum participants will be divided into three subject-matter working
groups across the following fields:

  • Arctic offshore and maritime security challenges;
  • Maritime industries: shipping, oil and gas, and transport; and
  • Law, regulations, and compliance for Arctic operations.

Early registration deadline: Friday, 7 March 2014.

    Indigenous Health Conference
    20-21 November 2014
    Toronto, Canada

Organizers announce that the inaugural Indigenous Health Conference will
convene 20-21 November 2014 in Toronto, Canada.

The conference will be an interdisciplinary meeting to discuss health
disparities and burden of disease among Indigenous peoples in Canada,
start a dialogue about potential solutions toward health equity, and
increase cultural competency among health care providers. The conference
will also feature a job fair to provide opportunities for working with
Indigenous communities in Canada.

A call for abstracts will be announced in the near future.
