Organizers announce an invitation to participate in the 2015 Ocean 180
Video Challenge. The program is sponsored by the Florida Center for
Ocean Science Education Excellence (COSEE Florida) and funded through a
grant from the National Science Foundation. Submissions will be accepted
from Wednesday, 1 October to Monday, 1 December 2014.
The Ocean 180 Video Challenge is designed to encourage ocean scientists,
including polar ocean scientists, to share their discoveries and
excitement for research with teachers, students, and the public. The
program challenges scientists to create short (three minute) video
abstracts that effectively communicate the meaning, significance, and
relevance of published research to general, non-scientific audiences.
The videos must be related to a scientific paper that has been published
within the past five years.
Scientists of all career stages, from undergraduate students to senior
scientists, are eligible to participate. Cash prizes will be awarded.
The winning entries will be selected by thousands of middle school
students in classrooms around the world. Last year's finalists were
viewed and judged by over 30,000 students in 13 countries, which
provided significant opportunity to broaden the impact of their research
efforts.
Submission period: Wednesday, 1 October to Monday, 1 December 2014.
For further information, full contest rules, and guidelines for
submission, go to: http://ocean180.org.
Middle school teachers are encouraged to register their classes to serve
as judges. For details, go to: http://ocean180.org.
