The National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Community
College Innovation Challenge for teams of community college students,
with a faculty mentor and a community or industry partner, proposing
innovative science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM)-based
solutions for real world problems.

The competition is open from 15 September 2014 through 15 January 2015.

Community colleges prepare technicians who will become an integral part
of research efforts and students who will continue their education at
four-year institutions. They also play a significant role in the
preparation of underrepresented groups in science. This challenge
furthers NSF's mission by enabling students to discover and demonstrate
their capacity to use science to make a difference in the world, and to
transfer knowledge into action.

Teams are encouraged to submit proposals for innovative STEM-based
solutions to problems within the themes of big data; infrastructure
security; sustainability (including water, food, energy, and
environment); broadening participation in STEM curricula, and improving
STEM education.

For further information, guidelines, prizes, resources, and to submit
competition entries online, please go to:
