The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) seeks an Executive
Director. The position is based in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

The SCAR Executive Director reports to the biennial meetings of the
national Delegates to SCAR and on a day-to-day basis to the Board of
Directors operating as the Executive Committee of the Delegates.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in the development of
SCAR by:

  • Implementing the vision for SCAR and Antarctic science,
  • Guiding the development and implementation of the SCAR program of
    activities,
  • Assisting in raising additional funding for SCAR 's activities,
  • Improving SCAR's communications,
  • Representing SCAR at international meetings, and
  • Managing the SCAR Secretariat efficiently and effectively.

Bowdoin College invites nominations and expressions of interest for a
newly endowed position in Arctic Studies that will focus on the Arctic
and some combination of policy, politics, and climate change. The
appointment will be at the level of tenured associate or full professor;
will be based in Brunswick, Maine; and will begin 1 July 2016.

The College seeks a scholar-teacher whose work addresses one or more of
the following in the context of the Arctic and circumpolar regions:
international relations; law, politics, and policy; environmental
issues; natural resource management and development; and indigenous
issues.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a capacity for excellence in
teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts environment, active engagement
in research, and public leadership in their areas of expertise. The
normal teaching load is two courses per semester, including courses in
the candidate's area of specialization.

This appointment will be in the Environmental Studies program and/or in
the appropriate department relevant to the candidate's training and
disciplinary affiliations. The candidate may also be affiliated with The
Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum and Arctic Studies Center.

  1. Postdoctoral Fellow in Atmospheric Chemistry

The University of Michigan seeks applicants for a postdoctoral fellow
position in the research group of Kerri Pratt in the Department of
Chemistry. The position is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan and expected to
be for two years with an initial appointment of one year with likely
renewal, pending demonstrated progress. The preferred start date is
August or early September 2015.

Research will focus on one-dimensional modeling of arctic atmospheric
chemistry, with emphasis on halogen chemistry and snowpack
photochemistry. Model results will be compared to field data from
chemical ionization mass spectrometry measurements.

This position is part of a National Science Foundation grant to improve
understanding of near-surface halogen chemistry under changing snow and
sea ice conditions. The one-dimensional model MISTRA will be utilized in
collaboration with Roland von Glasow at the University of East Anglia.
The position will also include assisting in the development of a general
chemistry laboratory course focused on snow chemistry research, as part
of an educational grant funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in atmospheric science,
chemistry, or a related area, as well as strong written and oral
communication skills. They should have prior experience with
one-dimensional or chemical transport modeling. An interest in teaching
is desired for participation in course development.
