  1. Postdoctoral Researcher Position Available
    Cryospheric Sciences
    Columbia University- LDEO
    Palisades, NY

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University
invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist Position in
cryospheric sciences.

Candidates should have completed their Ph.D. in Geography, Earth
and Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering, Glaciology, Geophysics or
related disciplines. LDEO encourage applications from those with
expertise in satellite radar altimetry and SAR velocity mapping
to study ice sheet mass balance, and with experience of working
with surface mass balance and ice sheet hydrology data. The
principal selection criteria are a clearly expressed plan to
investigate problems at the forefront of cryospheric science and
expertise matching or close to those described above. Excellent
programming and/or mathematical skills (e.g., Matlab) and the
ability to work in a team while developing his/her own research
ideas preferred. Expertise in applying for funding to funding
agencies and management of scientific projects preferred.

The position will remain open until filled.

Position Start Date: 1 September 2016.

  1. Postdoctoral Fellowship Available
    Ice-Ocean Interactions/Physical Oceanography
    University of Oregon
    Eugene, Oregon

The University of Oregon seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow in the area of
Ice-Ocean Interactions and Physical Oceanography. The position is for a
fixed term of 1 year with a possibility of extension based on funding.
The position is based in Eugene, Oregon.

The postdoctoral researcher will undertake an investigation of the
glacier response to ocean forcing in the western Antarctic Peninsula
(AP). They will collaborate with a diverse research team from multiple
institutions and utilize a wide range of techniques and data sources
from both the ocean and ice realms.

This project is focused on understanding the processes responsible for
driving the coupled ocean-glacier response along the latitudinal
gradient of the western AP, using a suite of historical data and new
coupled model simulations to examine several proposed mechanisms. The
successful applicant will also enjoy opportunities to work on existing
projects examining ice-ocean interactions in Alaska and Greenland,
including the opportunity to participate in field work.

The successful applicant should have a PhD (by the start date) with a
background in physical oceanography, glaciology, or a
related-discipline. Experience with high-resolution numerical models is
preferred, but not required. Applicants should have a record of good
written and spoken communication skills, as well as evidence of being an
independent researcher with a collaborative attitude.

To apply, please send a cover letter,a curriculum vitae, a one-page
statement describing your research background in the context of this
project, and the names, institutions, and email addresses for three
references, to Dave Sutherland (dsuth [at] uoregon.edu).

Review of applicants will begin on 1 July 2016 and continue until the
position is filled. The successful applicant will be able to start as
early as Fall 2016. The position is initially for one-year and includes
support for travel and publications, with a second year contingent on
progress and funding.

Application Deadline: 1 July 2016.

  1. Postdoctoral Position Available
    Polar Climate Science
    British Antarctic Survey/University of Exeter
    Cambridge, United Kingdom

The British Antarctic Survey is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral position
in Polar Climate Science. The position is for a fixed term of 4 years and is based in
Cambridge, United Kingdom.

The successful candidate will have the following duties:
- Evaluate the representation of sea ice in climate models by comparing
observed and simulated state variables and ice concentration budgets;
- Produce new projections of Arctic and Antarctic sea-ice changes,
underpinned by physical insight from ice budget decomposition;
- Quantify the physical implications of observationally-constrained sea
ice projections for polar amplification of precipitation and temperature;
- Collaborate on incorporating this new dynamical understanding into
statistical inference models being developed elsewhere in the project;
- Contribute to the design of climate model investigations into the
effects of changes in Arctic and Antarctic sea ice (simulations to be
run by collaborators); and
- Author high-quality research publications, contribute to project
meetings and present work at conferences.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience in a geophysical
discipline (e.g. atmospheric science or oceanography). To be successful
in this role, the applicant must have strong data-processing skills, a
background in climate dynamics/processes and an interest in statistical
modelling.

Application Deadline: 17 July 2016.
