The NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research invites
applications and nominations for the position of General Director. The
position is full-time, and located in Texel, the Netherlands. The
initial appointment will be for five years, with the possibility of
extension for another five years.
The successful candidate will:
- Initiate, stimulate, and lead the scientific program of NIOZ at
the frontiers of science and technology.
- Think strategically, be a visionary when it comes to marine and
oceanographic research, and possess the initiative and diplomatic
qualities needed to turn the vision into a coherent and feasible
long-term research program.
- Operate in a complex and varied national and international
network.
- Have proven capabilities to build, maintain, and productively use
this network in an effective way.
- Act as a representative of the institute in general, promoting the
institute's interests at policy-making bodies.
- Initiate and stimulate national and international initiatives to
raise funds for research at the institute.
Applicants should enjoy an international reputation in the oceanographic
or related sciences, and have first-rate management skills as well as a
natural talent for communicating results to the general public. The post
is open to qualified applicants of all nationalities.
