The Department of Geosciences and the Environmental Studies Program at
Pacific Lutheran University invite applications for a tenure-track
position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin September 2011.
The position will be based in Tacoma, Washington.
Teaching responsibilities will be equally split between Environmental
Studies and Geosciences and will include teaching glacial geology,
global climate change, meteorology, the central interdisciplinary
methods course for the Environmental Studies program, and topical lower
and upper division courses, as well as mentoring senior capstone
research projects. Field-based research with undergraduates on topics
that address the complex relationships between people and the
environment is expected. Research is competitively supported by the
Division of Natural Sciences.
A PhD is required, as is demonstrated excellence in teaching at the
undergraduate level, with experience in interdisciplinary teaching.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Alaska Science Center is accepting
applications for the position of Hydrologist. The position will be based
in Anchorage, Alaska.
Among other responsibilities, the successful applicant will:
- Conduct research and develop techniques that evaluate linkages
between hydrologic and associated geomorphic processes and landforms
in permafrost-dominated regions;
- Conduct complex and comprehensive hydrologic investigations and
provide expert advice and authoritative interpretation on complex
and controversial hydrologic problems for agencies, private
organizations, and academia;
- Serve as a consultant to scientists and planners by conducting
studies and monitoring hydrologic and related geomorphic processes
associated with streams, lakes, and wetlands in permafrost-dominated
landscapes in the arctic and boreal regions of Alaska; and
- Conduct a wide variety of USGS cross discipline, integrated
research in support of the Arctic Landscape Conservation Cooperative
(LCC).

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Alaska Science Center is accepting
applications for the position of Research Hydrologist. The position will
be based in Anchorage, Alaska.
Among other responsibilities, the successful applicant will:
- Characterize hydrologic and related geomorphic processes in
permafrost-dominated landscapes;
- Develop tools to aid managers in understanding potential future
conditions of those landscapes;
- Quantify components of the hydrologic cycle; and
- Work with team members to develop a monitoring network that feeds
predictive models.
