The National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Polar Programs (OPP)
seeks qualified applicants for the position of Ocean Projects Manager,
Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics Division (AIL). AIL's mission is
to provide infrastructure, logistics, and operational support for the
U.S. year-round presence in Antarctica, including maintenance and
operation of three year-round research stations, extensive laboratory
and computing capabilities for research, icebreaking research ships, and
air transport to support the U. S. research mission. More information

The incumbent will:
- Plan, develop, and coordinate operational support for scientific
projects on board two U.S. Antarctic Program research ships,
contracted ships, or ships belonging to foreign partners.
- Work with the research community to develop requirements for
long-range and multi-year plans to support future shipboard and
vessel-supported scientific projects.
- Ensure AIL's activities are incorporated in solicitations for
research proposals that may involve Antarctic field work.
- Oversee the evaluation of ship-based logistics and science support
requirements, including identifying required resources and ensuring
that resources are allocated as necessary to meet the planned field
requirements for all funded research projects.
- Oversee the prime contractor's management of the subcontracts for
the two research ships and assure that the subcontracts for these
ships remain current and properly equipped for funded research
proposals.
- Consult with other government agencies such as the U.S. Geological
Survey, NASA, the U.S. Coast Guard, and NOAA concerning USAP
capabilities that may have application to other agencies' missions.
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent experience in ocean,
atmospheric, or climate sciences or a related discipline and also must
have six or more years of research, research administration, and/or
managerial experience pertinent to the position.
