Arctic Plant Physiological Ecology
Tuscaloosa, Alabama
The University of Alabama seeks a postdoctoral researcher to work on a
National Science Foundation (NSF) funded interdisciplinary project. The
position is based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The successful applicant will interact with an interdisciplinary team
from University of Alabama, Florida International University, University
of Alaska Fairbanks, and the Toolik Lake Arctic Longer Term Ecological
Research (ARC LTER). The researcher will look at the winter
physiological processes in two arctic tundra ecosystems under current
and simulated climate change scenarios. The specific project
opportunities will depend on the interests and experience of the
applicant, but include leaf to ecosystem photosynthetic processes, plant
water relations in extreme environments, and carbon recycling under the
snow.
Applicants should possess a PhD in plant physiological ecology, plant
ecology, or plant physiology. The ideal candidate will have hands-on
experience with stable isotopes and a strong background in environmental
instrumentation (e.g. photosynthetic systems, Campbell Scientific data
loggers, and weather stations). Project management experience is
considered a plus. The initial appointment is for one year, extendable
subject to performance for an additional 1.5 years.
Applicants should submit a current curriculum vitae; a statement of
research interests; and the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of
four references to Gregory Starr (gstarr [at] ua.edu).
Review of Applications Begins: Friday, 20 November 2009
Applications will be accepted until position is filled.

Physical Limnology and Air-Sea Interactions
Santa Barbara, California
The University of California, Santa Barbara seeks a postdoctoral
candidate for a position in physical limnology and air-sea interactions.
The position is full-time, and based in Santa Barbara, California.
The successful candidate will study the physics of gas exchange at the
air-water interface. Study sites include lakes in the Arctic, temperate
zone, and tropics. The initial appointment is for one year; continuation
beyond that will be based on performance and availability of funding.
Applicants must have completed a PhD in physical limnology, physical
oceanography, boundary layer meteorology, or environmental engineering.
Demonstrated experience in analysis and interpretation of observational
data and a record of communicating research results are required. As the
research is partially field-oriented, candidates should have proven
ability to conduct research successfully under arduous field conditions.
Experience in modeling and working as part of an interdisciplinary team
are also desirable. The department is especially interested in
candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the
academic community through research, teaching, and service.
To apply, please send a cover letter describing your research interests
and experience, a current resume, and names of three references to Sally
