Foundation
New Arctic Research Opportunities Solicitation in Preparation
The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Arctic Sciences is
preparing a new solicitation. It is currently being reviewed but has not
been approved for release yet. They anticipate that it will be posted
very soon. The new deadline for this year would be three months from the
release date.
Proposers who submit before the release of the new solicitation will be
given the option of withdrawing and resubmitting for the new deadline or
letting their proposals stand as submitted and be considered with those
that come in under the new solicitation.

Nordic Centres of Excellence: Climate Change Interactions with the
Cryosphere
The Top-level Research Initiative (TRI) is launching a call for Nordic
Centres of Excellence within the sub-program "Climate Change
Interactions with the Cryosphere" at the end of October 2009. The
Top-level Research Initiative on climate, energy, and environment is the
largest joint Nordic research and innovation initiative to date. In
addition to being a Nordic contribution towards solving the global
climate crisis, the initiative intends to promote research and
innovation within the area.
The sub-program "Climate Change Interactions with the Cryosphere" uses
Nordic Centres of Excellence to promote research of very high scientific
quality by ensuring efficient and flexible use of the Nordic resources
in order to create added value within this research theme. The present
call welcomes applications for Nordic Centres of Excellence on
scientific observations, analyses and modeling on cryosphere-climate
interactions. The focus will be on the Nordic and arctic regions.
The budget for this sub-program is approximately 100 (MNOK) million
Norwegian Kroner over 5 years. TRI envisages the funding of up to three
centers within the sub-program. The centers must include participation
of research units from at least three Nordic countries.
The expected deadline for applications is the end of January 2010.
