Polar Field Services (PFS) is seeking two highly qualified applicants to
fill positions as Project Managers in the Fairbanks, Alaska office.
The successful applicants will have:
- Experience with project coordination;
- Proven organizational and follow through skills;
- Solid computer skills;
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal
skills;
- The ability to work well both in a team environment and
independently;
- Experience in science support, field research, or NSF polar
programs contract support; and
- Experience in and knowledge of wilderness activities such as
camping or backpacking.
Position 1
The Barrow Project Manager will initiate, coordinate, communicate, and
document requirements in order to support researchers in Barrow, Alaska.
In conjunction with the existing Barrow Project Manager and contract
organizations, this position will work to provide quality science
logistics support. The applicant must value working in a team setting.
It is essential that the applicant also have strong organizational
skills and the ability to prioritize their work. Willingness to work in
a small northern community with a number of constituents and vested
parties is critical. The ideal applicant will be familiar with northern
research requirements. Experience working in remote communities is a
plus.
This position requires the ability to travel to small remote field
sites, to an annual Denver meeting, and to science meetings, as
appropriate. This position may require occasional assistance with
fieldwork, which can include tent camping, rustic facilities, and
lifting up to 40 pounds. This job is a year-round flex position, working
a total of 1560 hours per year, or an average of 30 hours per week.
The Barrow Project Manager will be based in the Fairbanks office but
will need to live in Barrow for approximately 5-6 months per year.
Position 2
The Fairbanks Project Manager will initiate, coordinate, communicate,
and document requirements in order to support researchers throughout
Alaska, from the Fairbanks base. In conjunction with a team of three
project managers and the operations manager, this position will work to
plan and implement quality science logistics support. The ideal
applicant will be familiar with northern research requirements.
Experience working in remote communities is a plus. The applicant must

This is not a field position but does require an ability to travel to

This job will require some afternoon work and weekend work during the
field season. More hours may be required during the field season.
