The organizers of the 2010 Alaska Weather Symposium announce a
preliminary call for abstracts. The symposium provides a forum for the
exchange of operational and research information related to weather in
the Alaska environment. Participation from academic, research,
government, and private sectors is encouraged.

This will be a two-day symposium held at the University of Alaska
Fairbanks (UAF) on Tuesday-Wednesday, 9-10 March 2010. Although all
abstracts relating to weather in Alaska are welcome, the primary areas
of focus are anticipated to be:
- Operational forecasting and observational sources in Alaska;
- Polar aspects of weather;
- Datasets related to Alaska and polar weather; and
- Computational challenges in weather.

The deadline for one-paragraph abstracts for a 20-minute presentation is
Tuesday, 19 January 2010, and registration is required by Tuesday, 23
February 2010. Please check back on the symposium webpage for the
abstract submission and registration procedures, which will be available
soon.

The symposium is sponsored by the Alaska Region, National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service; the Arctic
Region Supercomputing Center; the UAF College of Natural Science and
Mathematics; the Geophysical Institute of UAF; and the International
Arctic Research Center (IARC).
