The arctic region is rapidly changing. Climate change, the opening of
new trade routes, and the hunt for oil, gas, and minerals are leading to
new industrial opportunities. This conference on arctic security
explores how the geopolitical pay-offs in the Arctic are altered, thus
identifying the key risks and threats in the region.
Organized by the Danish Institute for Military Studies (DIMS), the
conference aims to answer questions like:
- How does climate change influence the geopolitics of the Arctic?
- Will the hunt for resources spark a new great power conflict in the region?
- Will Russia, China, and the U.S. pursue aggressive High North strategies?
- What are the prospects for regional cooperation?
- Is there a future for an independent Greenland?
- What role will the Danish Armed Forces play in the Arctic?
Some of the world's leading experts and policy makers will address these
and related topics at the conference. Confirmed speakers include:
- G. John Ikenberry, Princeton University,
- Rear Admiral Nils C. Wang, Admiral Danish Fleet, and
- Clive Archer, Manchester Metropolitan University.
