The Ice Drilling Program Office (IDPO) of the National Science
Foundation (NSF) has created an electronic mailing list, called
"IceDrill.News," to keep the community informed of the direction of U.S.
ice drilling projects, documents, and planning. Although the IDPO is
using established community mailing lists (Cryolist, ArcticInfo, ANSWER)
to inform the community of how to subscribe to IceDrill.News, messages
that are specific to the U.S. Ice Drilling Program will only be
distributed on IceDrill.News.
IceDrill.News is not intended for sending broader community messages,
since the above-mentioned mailing lists serve the community very well in
that respect. The current vision is that no more than 1 message per
month will be sent to the IceDrill.News list.
NSF formed the IDPO to coordinate long- and short-term planning in
collaboration with the greater U.S. ice science community, to oversee
the Ice Drilling Design and Operations group (IDDO), and to ensure that
the drilling technology will be there when the science needs it. The
U.S. Ice Drilling Program comprises scientists seeking to better
understand evidence of the past archived in polar ice sheets and
high-latitude glaciers, along with drillers who enable the science.
