The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) seeks a candidate for the position of
Arctic Communications Officer. The successful applicant will be
responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a range of
communications activities, including campaigns, to help achieve WWF's
objectives in the Arctic region, in close association with other WWF
Arctic national organizations.
The WWF International Arctic Programme leads WWF's work in the Arctic.
It is also the core team designing and implementing the major Network
Initiative (NI) "Creating a New Future for the Arctic." The NI aims to
eliminate threats to the Arctic as a key region for the global climate
system and as one of the world's largest, most valuable and pristine
natural regions, through reducing global greenhouse emissions to avoid
an Arctic Meltdown and by creating resilience-based management of land,
sea, ecosystems and species. The communications functions of the Arctic
Network Initiative are critical to achieve these goals.
The major duties and responsibilities of the position include:
- Production and dissemination of the "Arctic Bulletin" (WWF's key
public newsletter on arctic issues), four times per year;
- Production of other relevant publications, as required;
- Facilitation of internal communications within WWF, including
email bulletins and intranet; - Integration of the communications
work of the Arctic Programme into WWF's global communications
efforts;
- Key liaison between all arctic-related communication activities in
the WWF Network;
- Collaboration with the communications team to help prepare
relevant arctic campaign and communication materials;
- Development and implementation of campaign strategies within the
Arctic Network Initiative, and between WWF national organizations
working on arctic issues, including participation in campaign
planning at relevant WWF forums;
- Media spokesperson;
- Provision of support for arctic-specific fundraising strategies
and events; and
- Actively mentors and provides guidance to the WWF Arctic Network
to build an organizational capacity and to ensure campaign
objectives.
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following
qualifications, skills, and competencies:
- Bachelors or Master's degree in a relevant discipline;
- At least three years of post graduate experience in a
communications / advocacy role;
- Proven ability to deliver on communications objectives;
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with all
stakeholders involved in arctic campaigns;
- Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple, time
critical tasks;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent motivational and interpersonal skills;
- Capacity and willingness to travel and to be able to work in
arctic regions when required;
- A broad understanding of arctic issues, particularly in the
ecological context, and including climate change;
- A good understanding of the political and social considerations
operating in each country or region; and
- Ability to adhere to WWF's values, which are: Passionate and

Persevering and Delivering Results.
