Web technicians at the Canadian Arctic Website announce improvements to
the Canadian Ice Service Web Page. The updated webpage provides
information to monitor and compare current ice conditions to normal
conditions and past years, as well as to maximum and minimum record
years. The information is also available for several sub-regions
including the Northwest Passage.
The improvements include:
- Ice cover graphs updated weekly to provide comparison of current
ice conditions with normal and past years in each region;
- Ice cover graphs show the median (instead of the average) to
provide a better representation of normal conditions;
- Ice cover graphs show the ice types to illustrate changes in old
ice coverage;
- A new "Departure from Normal Old Ice" map has been added to
illustrate changes in old ice coverage;
- Graphs and maps of minimum and maximum record years are provided;
- A Quikscat animation showing the evolution of ice conditions in
the Arctic Ocean has been added; and
- A weekly animation of "Ice in Canadian Waters" is also shown.
