The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Ecological Research Program
(ERP) is extending the deadline for applications to several
post-doctoral research positions, available in the Office of Research
and Development (ORD). All positions require a PhD in a related field
of science.

These positions include:
- Valuation of Ecosystem Services for Decision Support
The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams in the
ERP to evaluate alternative approaches to valuation and will assist in
the development of web-based tools to transfer the selected approach(es)
to decision-makers. A PhD and expertise in microeconomics, agricultural
and natural resource economics, environmental and ecological economics,
or value-based decision analysis are required.

  • Systems Toxicology Modeling with Small Fish
The associate recruited for this position will assume a lead role for
the project concerning systems and network modeling. S/he will be
working with a unique dataset comprised of linked genomic and
toxicologic data. The ideal candidate for this work not only would have
experience with biological systems and network models, but also would
have applied knowledge of molecular, biochemical, cellular and whole
animal indicators of exposure to, and effects of different classes of
chemicals, especially in the context of reproductive processes in
    vertebrates.

  • Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment Tools for Waterborne Pathogens
This position requires strong mathematical and statistical skills.
Previous experience in writing code for Markov Chain Monte Carlo or
other Bayesian statistical approaches for estimating distribution
parameters is required. Experience in water, food, or public health
microbiology and in QMRA research are desired.

  • Climate and Air Quality Interactions: Global to Regional Linkages
This position requires a PhD in atmospheric sciences, or in a related
scientific discipline such as environmental engineering. Preferably, the
applicant will have experience in the application and evaluation of
regional scale atmospheric chemical transport and climate models. Along
with a thorough understanding of the atmospheric processes and modeling
approaches involved, strong analytical and computational skills are also
    needed.

  • Quantifying Uncertainty in Exposure-to-Effects Models for Pyrethroid
    Pesticides
This position requires a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, applied
mathematics, physics, engineering, or related fields. The ideal
candidate would have a fundamental scientific understanding of
quantitative modeling and how models can be used to support exposure and
risk assessment. Ideally, s/he would understand statistical approaches
to designing and interpreting experimental data, would be familiar with
the use of systems of ordinary differential equations for modeling
dynamic systems, would be familiar with the application of classical and
Bayesian methods to the problem of parameter estimation in hierarchical,
population pharmacokinetic models, and would be familiar with related
computational skills, such as Markov chain Monte Carlo methods.

  • Mapping Toxicity Pathways for Environmental Chemicals
This position requires a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, computer
science, biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, physiology, or
closely related field. The ideal candidate would have experience in one
or more of the areas of computational modeling, computer science, data
mining and statistical analysis, combined with a background in
bioinformatics, molecular biology or genomics. Because the candidate
would be involved in both the conceptual development and the
implementation of this system, both biological knowledge and software
    development experience are critical.

The application deadline for these positions has been extended to
Friday, 4 April 2008.

application form, please go to:
