The Geophysical Institute at University of Bergen has an opening for a
professorship in oceanography that may be combined with the post of
Director of the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Centre (NERSC).
Applicants should indicate in their application whether this
directorship would be of interest.
The Geophysical Institute carries out research and provides graduate
education in meteorology, climate, large-scale and dynamical
oceanography, coastal and small-scale oceanography, and chemical
oceanography. Polar research, air-sea interaction, physical-biological
coupling, and operational oceanography are prioritized areas of research
for the institute.
NERSC is a non-profit research environmental and climate institute
affiliated with the University of Bergen. Its vision is to make a
significant contribution to the understanding, monitoring, and
forecasting of the world's environment and climate on regional and
global scales. Current research integrates remote sensing and field
observations with numerical modeling through use of advanced data
assimilation techniques. The research projects are funded by national
and international governmental agencies, research councils, and
industry.
Applicants should hold a PhD, be an internationally recognized
researcher in oceanography/climate/remote sensing, have substantial
research leadership experience as well as experience in coordinating
research activities and in strategic research planning. Applicants
should be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the
ability to work and communicate well with others in a team environment.
The successful candidate will lead and perform research, ensure
excellence in PhD training, and contribute to research-based tuition in
relevant fields at the Geophysical Institute.
Applications should be submitted in five identical copies, each of which
should comprise a curriculum vitae demonstrating scientific leadership
and abilities to provide funding, list of publications and reprints of
the 15 most important publications, list of grants and awards, as well
as a statement of current research topics and future research
directions. The final deadline for sending in reprints of publications
is one month after the expiry of the application deadline. Applications
