The National Science Foundation is sponsoring "Integrative Biology and
Adaptation of Antarctic Marine Organisms," a one-month, advanced biology
training course beginning in January 2008 at the U.S. McMurdo Station in
Antarctica.

This international course is open to all nationalities, and applications
are invited from PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty-level
research scientists who are interested in the study of extreme
environments and the biology of Antarctic organisms. The course will
accommodate up to twenty students. Full scholarships are available for
each student accepted to the course to cover the cost of travel from
their home institution to Antarctica, and room and board while in
Antarctica. The emphasis of the course is on integrative biology, with
laboratory- and field-based projects focused on adaptations in an
extreme polar environment. A diverse teaching faculty will offer
students the opportunity to study a wide range of Antarctic organisms
(bacteria, algae, invertebrates, and fish), as well as several different
levels of biological analysis (molecular biology, biomechanics,
physiological ecology, species diversity, and evolution).

The deadline for applications is 15 August 2007. For further information
