Arctic researchers and Alaska residents joined host Ira Flatow on the
National Public Radio program Science Friday for a live broadcast
looking at how climate change is affecting Alaska and the Arctic. The
program was broadcast live from Fairbanks, Alaska on Friday, 8 June
2007, and is now accessible at:

The first segment of the two-hour broadcast focused on "Climate Change
in Alaska - Biophysical Changes" and featured the following speakers:
- Hajo Eicken, associate professor, Geophysical Institute, University of
Alaska Fairbanks;
- F. Stuart Chapin, professor of ecology, Institute of Arctic Biology,
University of Alaska Fairbanks;
- Torre Jorgenson, senior scientist, ABR Incorporated, Fairbanks,
Alaska;
- William Harrison, professor emeritus, University of Alaska Fairbanks;
and
- Matthew Sturm, geophysicist, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Engineer
Research and Development Center, Cold Regions Research and Engineering
Laboratory, Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.

The program's second hour focused on "Climate Change and the People of
Alaska" with the following speakers:
- Fran Ulmer, former Lieutenant Governor, Alaska; former director,
Institute for Social and Economic Research; interim chancellor,
University of Alaska Anchorage;
- James Berner, M.D., member, U.S. National Committee for the
International Polar Year; senior director for science, Alaska Native
Tribal Health Consortium, Anchorage, Alaska;
- La'Ona DeWilde, resident, Huslia, Alaska; PhD candidate in biology,
University of Alaska Fairbanks; and
- Craig Gerlach, professor, Resilience and Adaptation Program; professor
of anthropology; principal investigator, Alaska Center for Climate
Assessment and Policy, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
