The recently published Second Edition of the English Language Version of
the Geocryological Map of Russia and Neighbouring Republics makes a vast
amount of detailed permafrost data available to non-Russian language
speakers. Data on permafrost and freezing ground has been collected over
many decades in the former Soviet Union and in the successor republics;
the scope of the information can only be properly appreciated with this
16-sheet immensely detailed Map.
The Second Edition enhances a number of technical points of translation.
Also, color is now used in the legends of the English Folio, greatly
improving the quality and practicality of the 16-sheet Map for the
English language user.
The Geocryological Map is published by the Russian Information Transfer
Project (RITP), a team of specialists and linguists in Russia, the
United Kingdom, and Canada who provide high quality translations of
Russian publications in cold regions geotechnical science. A listing of
