You can now submit your abstracts for session C 18: "Sea-Ice
Thermodynamics from the Microscopic to the Regional Scale: Processes and
Recent Change."
SESSION DESCRIPTION
Sea ice extent and thickness are strongly influenced by thermodynamic
properties and processes. Since the seminal modeling study by Maykut and
Untersteiner (1971), considerable effort has been directed towards
theoretical and observational studies of such processes. This session
provides an opportunity to present the state-of-the-art of sea-ice
thermodynamics and identify future directions that the field may take
during a time of unprecedented change. While ice cover variability is
driven by large-scale forcing, small-scale processes and feedbacks
significantly impact the response of the ice cover to such change.
Contributions that address one of the following topics are particularly
encouraged: thermodynamic growth of sea ice, the summer melt cycle,
ice-albedo feedback, optical properties, microstructural evolution, and
model studies from the centimeter to the regional scale.
