The University of Edinburgh seeks applications from world leading
researchers for a Chair in the dynamics and modelling of the coupled
land-ocean-atmosphere-biosphere system. This professorial appointment is
the first step in a major new initiative in Earth System Dynamics and
Modelling within the newly-formed School of Geosciences. The successful
candidate will be expected to help create a Centre of Excellence
operating at an international level. The new Chair will be supported by
additional posts.
The school is one of the largest of its kind with 155 researchers
spanning ecology, environmental chemistry, geology, geophysics,
meteorology, oceanography, physical and human geography. The school is a
partner in cross-disciplinary centres of excellence such as the Scottish
Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC), Edinburgh Materials
and Micro-analysis Centre (EMMAC), and the Centre for Science at Extreme
Conditions (CSEC). The University also hosts the national eScience
centre.
The successful candidate should have a broad and clear vision for
developing theoretical and modelling approaches for understanding the
behavior of the coupled Earth System. We seek candidates who will
provide inspiration and leadership in research and contribute actively
to teaching.
