VLADIVOSTOK SESSION
The Vladivostok meeting will cover natural resources and environmental
changes, recent discoveries and interpretations from joint research,
development and adaptations of peoples and cultures, and communication
and information exchanges. It will include opening and closing talks,
eight parallel thematic sessions, and posters. The meeting has two
sections:
Natural Science Research in the North Pacific and Adjacent Areas

Arctic and North Pacific in the Humanities and Social Sciences
Chairman: Professor V.L. Larin
Conference Registration Deadline: Friday, 25 June 2004
There is no late registration for attendees from the US, due to the
length of time required to process the official application and visa
form.
The registration fee is $200 USD, or $90 USD for graduate students, or
$30 USD for undergraduate students. This includes two conference dinners.
You must make your own flight arrangements and hotel reservations. A

The University of Alaska is offering 15 US participants a stipend of
$1000 each to help defray costs. These awards will be made
competitively, to individuals who will give a talk or poster at the
conference. Students and junior faculty will receive priority
consideration.
To apply for a stipend, please include:
(1) Your name
(2) Position
(3) Title and abstract of your proposed talk or poster, and the section
for which it is most appropriate

VISA PROCESS
(1) Obtain an Official Invitation
Invitation Deadline: Friday, 25 June 2004 (Please note the early
deadline due to invitation and visa processing requirements.)
(2) After you receive your official invitation, apply for your visa by
sending the following to the nearest Russian Consulate (Seattle, San
Francisco, New York, or Washington):
a. Copy of the invitation
b. Completed Visa Application that is available to download at:

c. Required fee

ANCHORAGE SESSION
The Anchorage meeting will include reports from the Russian session and
highlights of the two Arctic Council efforts, opening and closing talks,
and nine parallel thematic sessions and posters on the abilities of
Arctic peoples to sustain their health, lifestyles and cultures, and
economies in the face of natural and human-induced stresses.
Two of the parallel sessions will be allotted to papers submitted by
participants (Deadline: Friday, 16 July 2004), and the other ten will
comprise presentations, roundtable discussions, and workshops organized
by the members of the Planning Committee and others who have indicated
an interest and willingness to address a topic relevant to the
conference theme.
ANCHORAGE REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Conference registrations can be submitted by postal service, fax, email,
or online. While information will be given on the telephone, no
telephone registration will be accepted.
