As part of the IARC Seminar Series, Dr. Igor Polyakov will be presenting
a lecture entitled "From Nansen to NABOS: A Century-long History of
Arctic Ocean Exploration" on Wednesday, May 19 2004.

The lecture will be held in Room 401 at the International Arctic
Research Center located at 930 Koyukuk Drive on the University of
Alaska Fairbanks main campus.

Dr. Polyakov is a Research Professor at IARC. He is involved with the
following projects:
- Canadian Basin Observational System (CABOS)
- Climate of the Arctic: Modeling and Processes (CAMP)
- Nansen and Amundsen Basins Observational System (NABOS)

His areas of research interest are Arctic climate change and
variability, understanding the role of the Arctic Ocean in global
climate, Arctic decadal and interdecadal variability, and mixing in the
oceans.
