OVERVIEW
This interdisciplinary conference will compare how local hunters work
around marine and riverine coastlines across the circumpolar North. It
will draw together an international collection of ethnographers,
archaeologists, and ecologists with interests in human adaptations in
coastal environments defined broadly. The aim is to document the range
of variability in coastal economies and the material and social
consequences of engagement with coastal resources. The conference will
explore the extent to which coastal economies can be seen as distinct
from terrestrial economies by examining contemporary and past examples,
and the differences between marine and freshwater coasts.

TOPICS
We would like to encourage speakers to present not only on their
empirical findings but to try to link their observations to the work of
other colleagues in ecology, archaeology, and ethnography. We would also
encourage speakers to reflect on any strong differences between
riverine, marine, and terrestrial adaptations as seen through their own
research.

If you need advice on your presentation please contact the conference
convenors.
