OVERVIEW
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) aims to carry out a world leading
research programme addressing global scientific issues in the context of
the Antarctic. It is now establishing a physical oceanography team in
Cambridge to address a wide range of research activities associated with
the southern ocean ecosystem and climate dynamics. A vacancy exists for
a team leader who will have responsibility for establishing the group
and leading the research effort.
As Group Leader you will be creating a brand new team of oceanographers
to undertake fundamental research over a broad suite of Earth System
Science, leading to publication in premier research journals. In the
process, you'll firmly establish oceanography as a science discipline
within BAS, and in the longer-term, you'll become a major player in
shaping the science programme.

Candidates should have a PhD in Physical Oceanography, sea-going
experience, leadership ability, strong scientific vision, and excellent
communication skills. Although the post is based in Cambridge, you may
be required to undertake short tours of duty in Antarctica.
