OVERVIEW
The position of Executive Secretary for Conservation of the Arctic Flora
and Fauna (CAFF) is vacant. CAFF is a working group within the Arctic
Council and the office is located in the town of Akureyri,
North-Iceland. CAFF is a distinct forum of Arctic professionals,
indigenous peoples' representatives, and observer countries and
organizations, to discuss and address circumpolar Arctic conservation
issues. As one of the Working Groups of the Arctic Council, its primary
role is to advise the Arctic governments (Canada, Denmark/Greenland,
Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States) on
conservation matters and sustainable use issues of international
significance and common concern.
ELIGIBILITY
The applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Administrative/management experience and initiative
- University degree in biology or other pertinent discipline
- Experience in international scientific co-operation
- Good general knowledge of the Arctic with emphasis on flora and fauna
issues - Fluency in English
POSITION SPECIFICS
The Secretary will be employed initially for a year and will be required
to start in late April 2004, however, preferably by mid April.
