Dear Colleague,
You are invited to participate in the ARCUS 16th Annual Meeting and
Arctic Forum 2004 in Washington, D.C., 13-14 May 2004. All sessions will
be held at the Washington Terrace Hotel located in downtown Washington,
DC.
In addition to highlighting current arctic research through the Arctic
Forum, the ARCUS annual meeting serves to gather together members of the
arctic research community, key agency personnel and policy makers, as
well as ARCUS member institution representatives, Board of Directors,
and staff.

ARCTIC FORUM THEME
The scientific focus of this year's Arctic Forum is "Recent Decrease of
the Arctic Sea Ice: Its Causes, Consequences, and Historical
Perspective."
Presentations from a diverse range of disciplines will address:
- Aspects of the Physical Environment
- Marine Ecosystem Responses
- Coastal Transformation
- Impacts on Humans
- Historical and Paleoclimate Perspectives on Arctic Warming
The Forum will be co-chaired by Wieslaw Maslowski of the Naval
Postgraduate School and Mark Serreze of the Cooperative Institute for
Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado
at Boulder.
PRESENT A POSTER AT THE ARCTIC FORUM
You are invited to submit an abstract to present one or more posters at
the Arctic Forum on any topic related to arctic research. The online
abstract submission process is available at:

Although most talks will be invited, a few may be selected from
contributed abstracts.
Abstract submission deadline is Monday, 19 April 2004.
REGISTRATION DEADLINES
The registration deadline for participants requiring accommodations at
the Washington Terrace Hotel is Friday, 23 April 2004. The registration
deadline for participants not requiring accommodations is Monday, 3 May
2004.
