The goal of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA)
Foundation ( http://www.bcbsmafoundation.org/ ) is to help improve
access to healthcare for uninsured and low-income residents of
Massachusetts.
The foundation is accepting letters of inquiry for its 2004 Spring
Grants in the program focus area of Pathways to Culturally Competent
Healthcare. Through this program, the foundation will provide grants to
Massachusetts health delivery organizations to help expand access to
culturally competent care in a way that is systemic, replicable, and
sustainable.
This program is designed to address the obstacles to quality healthcare
that face patients from diverse cultures, particularly low-income and
uninsured patients. A variety of activities to address these healthcare
barriers will be considered for funding.
Program grants from $15,000 to $50,000 are available for applicants
ready to implement new initiatives or expand existing programs that have
the potential for success and sustainability. These are one-year,
one-time grant awards and are not eligible for renewal at the end of the
grant period.
Planning grants of $5,000 to $15,000 are available for early stage
initiatives supported by data and assessments indicating the viability
and necessity for the program. Organizations that receive a planning
grant are eligible to re-apply for a program implementation grant the
following year.
