GENERAL
The Department of Arctic Technology at the University Centre in Svalbard
(UNIS), Svalbard, Norway, invites applications for a faculty position in
Arctic Technology. Positions at UNIS carry significant responsibilities
in research and teaching, as well as supervising Masters and Doctorate
students.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VACANT POSITIONS
The vacant position is part of the Department of Arctic Technology. At
the moment, there are 2 Associate Professors and 4 Adjunct Professors
employed at the Department. The department is expected to expand with
new faculty positions to reach a size comparable to the other
departments at UNIS within the near future. This will increase the
activity at the department concerning both teaching and research.
The position will be responsible for the development of both courses and
research within the following area: Arctic geotechnical engineering,
construction and structures in the Arctic, both on- and offshore,
geohazards. The requested academic background for this position is;
geotechical engineering, statics, mechanics and physical environmental
loads with special emphasis on thermal and mechanical properties of
soil, permafrost and snow.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants for the position must be able to document their
qualifications as Full or Associate Professor. To be considered for the
position of Associate Professor a Ph.D. in an appropriate field, or its
equivalent, is the minimum requirement. All qualifications must be
documented as UNIS does not evaluate applicants for professorships.
Applicants are also requested to document their pedagogic qualifications
and experience.
