Undergraduate Research Opportunity
Svalbard, Norway
15 July - 21 August 2004
For more info visit: http://www.mtholyoke.edu/go/svalbard
Application deadline: 15 January 2004
The Svalbard Research Experience for undergraduates is offering exciting
opportunities for students to participate in polar science research
projects on the arctic island of Svalbard . We are attempting to
calibrate the sediment record in glacial-fed Lake Linne by studying the
modern glacial, fluvial and lacustrine systems.
We seek motivated junior-year students to develop their own research
project addressing current and past climate change in the Arctic (the
National Science Foundation requires participating students to be U.S.
citizens). Students will formulate their own research and carry-out the
associate field work during a five week field program on Svalbard and
will complete their projects at their home institution during the
following academic year.
The program will run from 15 July to 21 August, 2004. More information
can be found at http://www.mtholyoke.edu/go/svalbard.
Students from under-represented minority groups are particularly
encouraged to apply. Students selected for the Svalbard REU Project will
have all of their expenses paid (air fare, room/board, and research
costs) and will receive a summer stipend. The Svalbard REU is supported
by Artic Natural Sciences and the Paleoclimate program, Atmospheric
Sciences Division of NSF.
Application deadline is 15 January, 2004.
