Workshop on Short-to-Medium Range Regional NWP in the Arctic and
Antarctic
International Arctic Research Center
University of Alaska Fairbanks
8-10 October 2003
For more information contact:
Jeff Tilley (jeff [at] gi.alaska.edu) or David Bromwich (bromwich.1 [at] osu.edu)
Abstract Deadline 15 July 2003
Conveners:
David Bromwich, Byrd Polar Research Center, Ohio State University
Jeff Tilley, Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks
Primary Themes:
- Improving Initialization and Data Assimilation, utilizing satellite
and conventional data sources, for NWP high latitude applications. - Improving NWP model physics for high latitude applications, including
atm/ice/ocean/land couplings - Numerical issues relevant to NWP in the Arctic and Antarctic,
including, but not limited to:
a. Optimal resolution
b. Optimal topographic/land use/vegetative/sea ice specification
c. Upper boundary conditions
d. Hydrostatic vs. Nonhydrostatic
Though abstracts are being solicited with a focus on these themes, other
papers related to regional NWP in the Arctic and Antarctic are also
appropriate and encouraged. Submission of an abstract is not required to
participate in the workshop. Please inform Jeff Tilley
(jeff [at] gi.alaska.edu) or David Bromwich (bromwich.1 [at] osu.edu) by 15 July
of your interest to participate in the workshop.
Abstracts, not to exceed 200 words, should be submitted via email to
Jeff Tilley (jeff [at] gi.alaska.edu) and David Bromwich (bromwich.1 [at] osu.edu)
by 15 July. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by email by 30
July.
Authors of accepted abstracts will be requested to electronically submit
a preprint article, in PDF format, not exceeding 2 MB in length, by 1
September. A preprint CD will be distributed at the workshop, and
w/sufficient interest, a special journal issue will be pursued.
Direct all inquiries for information to Jeff Tilley or David Bromwich at
the email addresses above.
