This workshop will be held during IUGG 2003 in Sapporo, Japan.
The aim is to review our current understanding of high latitude
mesoscale vortices and in particular to bring together experts in
polar lows occurring in different parts of the Arctic and Antarctic,
such as the Sea of Japan, North Pacific, Norwegian / Barents Sea,
Antarctic coastal region and the Labrador Sea.
Presentations are invited from all those interested in polar lows and
other high latitude mesoscale vortices and cyclones. In particular,
student presentations are very welcome. Results from observational,
modelling and climatological studies are all encouraged. Papers are also
requested on air-sea interactions, winter mesoscale phenomena, such as
band clouds, and snow storms.
If you plan to attend and would like to give a presentation please send
a title, the name(s) of author(s) and an abstract not to exceed 4 pages
in length to the meeting organisers by 31 May 2003:
Yoshio Asuma (asuma [at] ep.sci.hokudai.ac.jp)
John Turner (J.Turner [at] bas.ac.uk)
Kent Moore (moore [at] atmosp.physics.utoronto.ca)
