Dear Colleagues:
I am recruiting a student for an MSc project in northern/applied fish
biology, specifically on the impacts of diamond mining activities on
lake-dwelling salmonids and their overwintering fish eggs/larvae. The
field site for the study is Lac de Gras, a large, oligotrophic lake
located 300km NE of Yellowknife, NWT; a lab-based component at the U of
A is also expected, and the study will interface with a parallel
geophysics project and related environmental monitoring. Requirements
include: degree in biology, zoology, fisheries or related field (by Sept
2003), field experience, preferably with lakes and/or fish, SCUBA
certification (by August 2003), interest in northern fisheries, and the
ability to work both independently and as part of industrial and
university teams, as well as interface with DFO Habitat Biologists.
Qualified students would be eligible for support from an NSERC
Industrial Postgraduate Scholarship. Field work would commence in the
summer (2003), with the graduate program beginning in September.
Interested students should contact Bill Tonn as soon as possible.
Please include a cover letter, CV/resume, and (unofficial) transcripts.
