The Alaska Migratory Bird Co-Management Council will be meeting
Wednesday, Oct 16, 8:30am-5:00pm, Hampton Inn, Anchorage to discuss
details of the 2003 spring/summer subsistence migratory bird harvest
season and guidelines for regulation development for the 2004 season.
The 2003 migratory bird subsistence harvest will be the first legal
spring/summer bird harvest in Alaska, thanks to an amendment in the
Migratory Bird Treaty Act, ratified by the U.S. Senate in 1997.
The meeting is free and open to the public.
The 2003 subsistence bird harvest will be open for rural residents north
and west of the Alaska Range, Kodiak, the Alaska Peninsula, and the
Aleutian/Pribilof Islands. The Co-Management Council consists of the
U.S. Fish & Wildife Service, Alaska Departmant of Fish & Game and Native
representatives from 11 regions across the state (Aleutian/Pribilof
Islands Association, Copper River Native Association, Bristol Bay
ANative Association, Maniilaq Association, Chugach Regional Resources
Commission, Kodiak Area Native Association, North Slope Borough, Bering
Strait/Norton Sound Region (Kawerak), Tanana Chiefs Conference, the
Association of Village Council Presidents, and the Central Council of
Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes).
Proposals to change the 2004 regulations or to petition community
excluded/included status will be accepted Nov. 1 - Dec. 15, with forms
and details on how to submit available from:
