The Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS), located in the Faculty
of Environment at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB. Canada is
one of the lead agencies in the Canadian Arctic Shelf Exchange Study
(CASES). Dr. D. Barber leads subproject #2 (Ocean-Ice-Atmosphere
Interactions and Biological Linkages) and collaborates through several
other subprojects within CASES. Our group (D. Barber, J. Hanesiak, and
T. Papakyriakou) are currently recruiting students to work in areas of
physical forcing of, and biological response within, the Arctic marine
system. This includes specialized projects in meteorological processes
(modeling and observations), carbon fluxes, snow and sea ice processes,
and related biological feedbacks.
Positions are available at the Masters, PhD, Post Doc and Research
Scientist levels. We have funds to support between 4 to 7 new
researchers to assist with field work, modeling and analysis resulting
from this exciting five-year international research program.
In particular we are interested in students with an interest/expertise
in the following areas:
-Ocean-Sea Ice-Atmosphere dynamic and thermodynamic process studies
-Physical Controls of gas and mass fluxes across the ocean-sea
ice-atmosphere interface
-Meteorological Forcing of sea ice dynamic and thermodynamic processes
-Development of numerical process models of energy, mass and or gas
fluxes
-Development of geophysical inversion techniques to make better
estimates of climate and surface state variables over sea ice.
