Dear Arctic Colleagues:
My apologies if you received this email more than once. We are trying to
contact as many people that may be interested as possible. Please
forward this to those who you think would be interested.
The University of Alaska has initiated a process by which all interested
organizations and persons can help define a statewide coastal ocean
observing system. At the national levels, there has been an effort
underway to develop such an integrated, sustained system which would
include all interested parties: academic, governmental, non-governmental
and private industry.
This email is to inform you of the first steps towards implementation of
a Alaska-wide consortium to develop the Coastal Alaska Observing System
(CAOS). Your input is critical to the success of this consortium. We
invite you to go to register your willingness to participate, provide
input or just be informed of this process at our CAOS web page

We are also seeking the names of eight people to serve on an executive
committee for developing and implementing the planning process for CAOS.
The executive committee should represent diverse interests, geographical
regions and organizations concerned with Alaskan waters.
The inaugural meeting of the CAOS executive committee is Saturday, 21
September, in Fairbanks at the AAAS Arctic Science Conference
(http://arctic.aaas.org). On the same day we would like to invite all
others interested in participating in CAOS to attend a general session
about the observing system planning process.
