The Arctic Ocean is highly inaccessible to most methods for observing
and working in the ocean's interior. This greatly inhibits addressing
key questions surrounding such topics as global climate change, plate
tectonics, and deep-sea hydrothermal systems. Recent developments in
advanced instrumentation technologies could significantly improve our
ability to make observations and collect samples underneath the Arctic
ice cap.
The purpose of this workshop is to foster collaboration between Arctic
scientists and instrumentation specialists, to identify the most
critical technical challenges in the Arctic, and to identify technical
solutions and instrumentation concepts that have the potential to enable
important scientific advances in Arctic oceanography.
