SENIOR RESEARCH GEOLOGIST
A permanent position as Senior Research Geologist with particular
emphasis on the geology of igneous rocks is available at the Department
of Geological Mapping, Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland
(Danmarks og Gronlands Geologiske Undersogelse, GEUS).
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS: 25 February 2002 (by Midday)
WORK AREA
Your work will be centred on aspects of igneous rocks in Greenland.
Igneous rocks form extensive provinces in several parts of Greenland,
and some occurrences host economically interesting mineral deposits.
Your work will include interpretations of regional and geodynamic
setting and petrological and geochemical processes, and the application
of these tools in investigations and interpretations of mineralisations
and mineralisation processes. Participation in fieldwork is regarded as
compulsory. The applicant should also be able to participate in upcoming
projects in developing countries.
GEUS's work is organized in a project structure with cooperation between
departments. GEUS has also extensive collaboration with external
research workers representing a large group of Universities and Surveys
both in Denmark and abroad. In connection with GEUS's participation in
Geocentre Copenhagen, the external collaboration ties will be
strengthened and widened.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and be able to document a
minimum of three years of post-doctoral research in fields relevant to
investigations in igneous terrains. The applicant should possess
experience within a broad range of disciplines including field geology,
petrography, mineralogy, geochemistry, and economic geology of igneous
rocks, both intrusive and extrusive. The applicant should further be
able to interpret the igneous rocks in a regional, geodynamic context.
He/she is expected to participate in working groups with members with a
wide range of geoscientific experience, and collaborative skills will be
important. Experience in expedition organisation will be an advantage.
To hold a position as senior researcher the appointee is expected to be
able to attract external research funding and head research projects.
The position does not entail teaching responsibilities, but the
applicant must be qualified and able to supervise Ph.D. students. A goal
of the department is always to have M.Sc and Ph.D. students integrated
in current projects.
A competent use of the English language is essential. A successful
non-Danish applicant will be offered courses in Danish.
SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
The appointment will be on the basis of scientific evaluation concerning
positions for civil servant academics with scientific tasks at sector
research institutions. Working hours are 37 hours per week, and salary
levels are as defined by the Ministry of Finance. Depending on
qualifications and experience a bonus may be negotiated.
APPLICATION
A committee of three (two internal and one external) will evaluate all
applications.
Applications marked GEUS J.nr. 0361-001 must include a statement of
research interests together with a C.V., a list of all publications
sorted into categories (reviewed research, unreviewed research, popular,
maps, abstracts, miscellaneous), copies of publications particularly
relevant for the evaluation (max. six), and the names and addresses of
at least three referees. All the above material is to be submitted in
four copies and must be available at the address below no later than
midday on 25 February 2002.
