U.S. Permafrost Association Organizational Meeting
San Francisco, CA

10 December 2001 (Monday)
6:30pm - 8:00pm
Room 132, Moscone Center

Everyone interested in permafrost science or engineering is welcome to
attend.

Over the past several years there have been growing interests in
scientific and engineering questions related to permafrost. These
heightened concerns reflect observed and potential responses of
permafrost terrains and structures to global warming. The U.S. has been
an active contributor to the International Permafrost Association since
its founding in 1983. During the December 2000 AGU meeting in San
Francisco, a number of past members and chairpersons of the U.S.
permafrost committees met and discussed the future of permafrost
research in the U.S. and decided to initiate forming a U.S. Permafrost
Association. This group would in essence be the U.S. component of the
International Permafrost Association. We have had an overwhelming
positive response to our initial efforts of establishing the U.S.P.A.

We will hold our first organizational meeting during the Fall AGU in San
Francisco on Monday, 10 December 2001, 6:30pm-8:00pm, in Room 132 of
the Moscone Center. In this meeting, we will discuss what our role
should be, consider the suggested bylaws, and nominate candidates for
officer positions.
